This week, for International Women’s Day our President, Liza Schaeper, was recognised on the Leichhardt Council International Women’s Day honour role. Mum from the Club, Jill Hannaford, nominated Liza for her contribution to gender equity through role modelling to, and providing opportunities for, girls and women in sport.20160309_193434

Liza would like to send this message to all Saints: It was a great honour to be recognised for the work I do as part of the committee and as a player and coach with our Club.

I want all the boys and girls, mums and dads, and men and women players to know that every time I take on something new I feel nervous and unsure. Through the supportive environment at Saints I have challenged myself to play football, coach and manage teams, take on numerous roles on the committee and organise and host events.

I have not felt alone in any of these activities, and over time I have felt a sense of achievement by doing my best with every opportunity. I encourage everyone to extend themselves a little this year. Get involved, take on a new challenge, and feel the satisfaction of helping others. It might be a kind word of encouragement, helping to collect the cones after training, or a longer term commitment such as coaching a team for the first time.

Make 2016 your year to make a difference every day.
