2027 Competition Structure

Everything below is our best information at the time of writing and is subject to change.

Leichhardt Saints caters for players aged from 3 to 100. We have mixed gender, girls’, boys’, women’s and men’s teams.

 

MiniRoos for Players aged 3-5

Our MiniRoos KickOff program is a fun introduction to football for children aged 3 to 5 who are new to the game.

Sessions run once a week at King George Park, led by accredited coaches, focusing on skills and drills. Two session times are offered: 9am and 10am.

2027 program dates, cost and registration will be confirmed in February. Subscribe to our mailing list or follow us on Facebook to be notified when registrations open.

 

Under 6 and Under 7

Small Sided Football. Teams will play 4-a-side on a 30m x 20m field with no goalkeepers.  All games will be played intra-club at King George Park with occasional gala days against other clubs.

  • Saturday 3 April 2027 is the first game for U6, kick-off at 9am King George Park
  • Saturday 3 April 2027 is the first game for U7, kick-off at 10am King George Park
  • Training for U6 and U7 will begin Tuesday 16 March at King George Park

Under 6 – Under 7 Information & Draw 2026 (2027 version to be published)

 

Under 8 and Under 9

Small Sided Football, played 7-a-side (goalkeeper plus six) on a 40m x 30m field in a round-robin format. Teams play different clubs at different venues each week, and results are not published.

Games are Saturday mornings, or Sundays for girls’ teams, on a home and away basis. Home games are at King George Park or Balmain Road Sporting Ground. Away games may be played as far away as Punchbowl.

Round 1 commences 3 and 4 April 2027.

Grading begins at the Under 8 age group. It is not compulsory, though it is recommended. Grading is held in November of the previous year. The top two teams in each age group are graded, and we aim to form the remaining teams around friendship groups. See our Grading Policy for more information.

 

Under 10, Under 11 and Under 12

Small Sided Football, played 9-a-side (goalkeeper plus eight) on a 60m x 40m field in a round robin format. Teams play different clubs at different venues each week, and results are not published.

Games are Saturday mornings, or Sundays for girls’ teams and U12 Boys and Mixed teams, on a home and away basis. Home games are at Rozelle Parklands, Sydney Secondary College Leichhardt and Balmain Road Sporting Ground. Away games may be played as far away as Punchbowl.

 

Under 13 and above

Teams play 11-a-side on a full-sized field in competitive home and away fixtures, with semi-finals and finals.

Please note the split across the weekend. U13s play Sunday, as do U14 to U21 Boys and all Girls and Women’s teams. All Age Men’s, O35s, O45s and O55s play Saturday afternoons. There is also a separate All Age competition that plays Sundays.

  • U13 to U21: Sunday fixtures, home and away. Home games are at King George Park, Sydney Secondary College Leichhardt and Balmain Road Sporting Ground. Away games may be played as far away as Roselands and Punchbowl.
  • All Age Men’s, O35, O45 and O55: Saturday fixtures, occasionally Friday evenings, home and away. Home games are at King George Park, Balmain Road Sporting Ground and Rozelle Parklands. Away games may be played as far away as Roselands and Punchbowl.

 

Women and Girls

Female-only teams play on Sundays. Girls generally play in the morning and Women in the afternoon. Home games are at King George Park, Sydney Secondary College Leichhardt, Balmain Road Sporting Ground and Arlington Recreation Reserve. Away games may be played as far away as Roselands.

Junior girls can play in mixed-gender teams up to Under 13. From Under 8, girls may also form all-girls teams and play in an all-girls competition.

Competition dates – Winter 2026 (2027 TBC)

It should be noted that Winter football can be scheduled for any weekend between 1 April and 31 August.

Grounds closed: Monday 30 March – Monday 6 April inclusive.

Week 1: 11/12 April. First games for Under 8 and up.

Week 2: 18/19 April. First games for Under 6 and 7. MiniRoos Program 1 commences (8 weeks).

Week 9: 6/7 June. Long weekend / No games for MiniRoos or U6/U7. Catch-up Round for others and regular games for competition Ages in a 10- or 12-team comp.

Week 12: 20/21 June. End of MiniRoos Program 1.

Week 13: 27/28 June. Start of MiniRoos Program 2.

Week 15: 11/12 July. Middle weekend of the July school holidays / No games for U6/U7 or MiniRoos. Catch-up Round for others.

Week 20: 22/23 August. End of MiniRoos Program 2. Presentation Round for Small-sided football teams (U8-U12).

Week 22: 29/30 August – Final fixtures for competition teams (U13 and older).

Presentation Day: Sunday 20 September. 9am – 12 noon
