About Leichhardt Saints FC

Leichhardt Saints Football Club (LSFC) is one of the Inner West’s largest and most inclusive community sporting organisations, with over 1,200 registered players in 2026. Most of our players live in Leichhardt, Annandale, Lilyfield, Haberfield, Petersham and Stanmore, with families joining us from right across the Inner West. Founded on the principles of family, participation and equal opportunity, we provide football programs for everyone from our MiniRoos (from age 3) through to our Over 55s teams.

As a volunteer-run club, we pride ourselves on fostering both competitive excellence and social participation. Our teams compete in the Football Canterbury competition, with programs catering to all skill levels. From our championship-winning Premier League teams to our social teams, every player is valued and supported in achieving their goals.

Our home grounds host more than 80 teams each weekend: King George Park and Rozelle Parklands in Rozelle, Balmain Road Sporting Ground in Callan Park, Sydney Secondary College Leichhardt (SSCL), and Arlington Oval in Dulwich Hill.

A Short History of the Saints

The 1960s: Origins

The Saints’ story began at the Leichhardt Police Citizens Youth Club (LPCYC), where local police sergeant Reg Dowton established junior football teams. Our name honours our connection to St Fiacre’s, Leichhardt, whose junior clubs merged under the LPCYC banner.

The 1970s & 1980s: Growth

The club expanded into senior football when coaches Jim Sherratt and Ivan Petrie formed our first All Age team. Through the following decades, the club experienced various transformations, including a significant revival in the early 1990s when dedicated parents and players established King George Park in Rozelle as our spiritual home.

2004 – Present: Modern Milestones 

• 2004: Our Under 12 Girls team, coached by Life Member Barry Shuttleworth, claimed the NSW State Cup Championship.

• 2006: We officially became Leichhardt Saints Football Club, embracing both our heritage and football’s evolving identity.

• 2025: Our Women’s Premier League side secured their 10th Grace Martin Trophy, confirming LSFC as the most successful club in the history of the Football Canterbury Women’s Premier League.

• Fair Play: Our commitment to sportsmanship has earned us Football Canterbury’s Fair Play Award three times (2010, 2012 and 2018).

From our origins in the 1960s, we’ve grown from 150 players in 1993 to over 1,200 members today. We are proud to continue our tradition of fostering both sporting excellence and community connection in the Inner West.
